Legal Claims
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act (CLJA) of 2022 permitted filing claims and lawsuits related to the historic drinking water, with a claims filing deadline of August 10, 2024. Information regarding the Department of the Navy’s (DON’s) processing of claims is available at https://www.navy.mil/clja/ or by calling (757) 241-6020. The Department of Justice and the DON announced the CLJA Elective Option (EO) that provides a framework for resolving certain CLJA claims more quickly and more efficiently than in litigation. For EO information, please see https://www.justice.gov/civil/camp-lejeune-justice-act-claims.

Evaluation of Cancer Incidence Among Marines and Navy Personnel and Civilian Workers Exposed to Contaminated Drinking Water at USMC Base Camp Lejeune: A Cohort Study

ATSDR, ATLANTA, GA (24 October 2024) - The cancer incidence study of Camp Lejeune Marines and Navy personnel, as well as civilian workers, was designed to investigate whether exposure to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune increased cancer risk. The study was published by Environmental Health Perspectives, Volume 132, Issue 10.

Evaluation of Mortality Among Marines, Navy Personnel, and Civilian Workers Exposed to Contaminated Drinking Water at USMC Base Camp Lejeune: a Cohort Study

ATSDR, ATLANTA, GA (03 July 2024) - A cohort mortality study of military personnel and civilian workers with presence at Camp Lejeune from 1972 to 1985. A comparison was made to mortality rates for military personnel and civilian workers with presence at Camp Pendleton during the same period. The study was published by Environmental Health Journal, Volume 23.

Morbidity Study of Former Marines, Employees, and Dependents Potentially Exposed to Contaminated Drinking Water at U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune

ATSDR, ATLANTA, GA (April 2018) - The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a link between exposure to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune and selected cancers or other diseases in former service men and women, their families, and civilian workers. Drinking water at Camp Lejeune was contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including trichloroethylene (TCE), tetrachloroethylene (PCE), benzene, trans-1,2-dichloroethylene (DCE), and vinyl chloride.
